Embracing the Machine

Another productive seminar today, one I am very glad I went to. Before starting I had no ideas, nothing came to my head at all. I knew I wanted to use the industrial past and the new regeneration but I was struggling to link it together. When it came to my turn to talk about my work, I began blagging an idea. What started off as a hamster wheel became cogs whirring in the mind to a fully functioning idea machine. From out of nowhere I had conjured an idea which I felt had potential. I could incorporate the industrial past with the creative media future by creating a machine. One which produces creativity and ideas.

It ticked all three boxes. A machine is dynamic with its various motions and movements. I wanted to use bright, vibrant colours to show creativity. Finally, it was prosperous as it was taking an initial starting object (I'm currently thinking threads of cotton to tie in the textile success) into a thriving, successful idea.

I will be honest. I became very excited with this idea. As the day went on, I continued to think up possibilities. I wanted to make it dynamic so thought up ways of making it interactive. Maybe a button on the front to "start the machine". Then pull tabs along the way make various parts of the machine work.

It's still an early idea but I can see a lot of potential. I won't focus entirely on this idea for now as there may be other possible outcomes. However, I will definitely keep working on it with some definite visits to the Museum of Science and Industry for primary source imagery and inspiration.
