It's been just over a month since my last entry so this one will be a big catch up of my progress with the new projects so far.
For the poster brief I have decided to do extreme ironing. I immediately loved the idea after reading the quote 'an outdoor activity that combines the danger and excitement of an extreme sport with the satisfaction of a well pressed shirt'. I felt I had a lot to play with and would still enjoy it as I used to skateboard and BMX when I was younger. Initially I started off with some brainstorms and moodboards and managed to scrape a few ideas from that. I then forced myself to come up with over 20 ideas, very rough, but outlined the basic concepts. This made me to think outside of the box. The three ideas I have chose are an iron covered in hazard tape, a simple vector illustration which is an object from an extreme sport (e.g. a helmet) plus a pile of ironed and folded shirts and a series of extreme environments where an iron has been used to iron the environment, such as waves are ironed out in the sea. So far my strongest idea lies in the envrionment one, however, it will be difficult to execute it well so I'm looking into all three as potential final ideas.
At the moment, I am just creating some digital mock ups of the extreme ironing math idea, and with a bit of playing around could turn out really well as a series of different posters. I then want to try an illustrate the environment idea and see how that turns out.
As for the second project, I have decided to create a short animation based around the QR code. I'm playing around with the idea of it transforming itself into a pixel illustration, or slowly revealing a photo of the blue coat gallery. I feel it would add a contemporary twist to the gallery as it incorporates new technology.
My previous idea was combining real footage of someone walking to the blue coat gallery and the world around them would become alive and animate. However, not only would this have taken too long given the time allowed, it also didn't feel particularly original. I am now going to be experimenting with QR codes and seeing how I can manipulate them.
