Spam :)

The canned legend that is spiced ham! My next project is all about rebranding SPAM and I can't wait to start. This so far sounds like the most interesting project yet as we have to change the image of spam through various media such as packaging, websites, posters etc.

I really like how this project focuses on other aspects to design other than a poster and also looks at changing the image and people's associations with the brand. I've already been looking into how I could rebrand it with one possible direction of making SPAM a premium meat. One initial idea is to have a scene of a butchers and stacked up next to fresh meat are SPAM cans. People in the scene are queueing for the SPAM and neglecting the fresh meat. Another idea is a photograph of a rusting meat grinder and other utensils used in cutting and preparing fresh meat. The idea is based around no longer needing the tools as the demand for SPAM is so high.

These were just initial ideas without even researching anything. My first step is to gather lots of information and also survey people's current opinions on the tinned meat and see what direction would work best. I am also going to look into design for food and look into what colours work best and look into how food is currently being advertised at the minute (fresh, healthy etc). This is certainly going to be an exciting and challenging project.
