In terms of pressure on myself, deciding to recreate my video was probably not my best idea given I have numerous deadlines due. However, I'm really glad I did and after many painful hours of trying to create ideas, I decided simple was the best way.
I initially started off with my origami story of folding a shirt then a building to represent the Bluecoat. However, I failed to make the shirt work and I never understood why. It would just never look like a shirt and it really annoyed me. I then went back to the drawing board, whipped up some animation possibilities and then tried to make an alien tentacle come out of a circle in the side of the Bluecoat as if it was a spaceship. After many attempts this didn't work as it looked poorly made.
I began to get annoyed, the program I used (Pencil for the Mac) kept crashing as its still in it's early versions so I decided to give the origami one last shot. This time I decided to fold the building and no shirt. A very simple video of me folding it, nothing special. A quick bit of editing (making it faster, adding some upbeat music) and it was done. I must say it actually turned out really good. The music works really well with it and I think it was just what it needed to make it interesting.
So, without further ado here it is!
FINAL BLUECOAT VIDEO
I think whilst I didn't particularly enjoy this brief, I felt it was important I did something like this now so I knew motion was definitely not for me. I don't have the patience for video as I love everything to be perfect and there is a lot of work in a video which I find can be very repetitive.
In terms of my other brief for SPAM, things are looking well. I'm definitely thinking students are the way to go and festivals are a great way to get the brand out there. I've already started to think of some interesting ways the SPAM tins could be used, such as a souvenir like the wristbands, and also turning the tins into small speakers, or make the speakers at the festival look like SPAM tins. I will do another update soon with a better update of my progress.
