A Quick Look at Daniel Egneus

It's amazing what happens when you open a book at no specific page. After a browse around Magma bookstore, I stumbled across Illusive Volume 3 and upon opening the book I found my new favourite illustrator, Daniel Egneus.

What I particularly like about his work is that he uses ink and watercolours, two of my favourite media. Not only that but his style is loose and carefree which is how I like to work as I often feel that its the best way of getting down ideas. It's as if he lets the ink do the work and he's merely there to edge it in the right direction. This often leaves quite a minimal, abstract feel but is still distinguishable as to what it is. I particularly like how his work has strong contrasts from more precise, tedious marks to looser strokes and often this brings points of focus to his work.

Does his loose style reflect his personality? His approach to life? Personally to me, it shows he is quite an open person but also one who is a perfectionist as I imagine his images are made numerous times until it is perfect, especially because the media he is using can easily cause a mistake and result in starting over.
